As I write this, I have a friend who’s unsure of where she and her husband are going to live, another who’s lost a job and still another who’s found a lump. Uncertainty can be all around us, the unexpected around the corner. What might you be facing in your life today?
Guess what? He’s not surprised. He’s got you.
Stop and breathe, let that reality sink in. He’s got you.
I could probably end our time together today right there, but we all need so much more encouragement, don't we?
As I write this, I have a friend who is organizing Food Stamp relief for government workers whose paychecks have been frozen, another who’s a doctor working in the emergency room, and still another who serves the homeless. I know others that are expanding giving of their time, talent, and finances for the greater good of our ACF family and beyond!
You see, as we face the challenges of this life and focus on the scary and unforeseen, God has already made the way forward. He is your banner! (Psalm 60:4) Are there circumstances that seem too hard to bear? He’s also keeping disastrous things from you and protecting you, performing miracles, sending people that can help and that speak his words over you in their private prayers. Together, by God’s mighty hand, we are overwhelming evil with good – God’s good. And just as we should not tire of doing good (Gal. 6:9), shouldn’t we also not tire of seeing good, acknowledging good?
Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not simply saying, 'Get over it!’ What I am saying is don’t let life circumstances get you down. Don’t miss all the good that God is orchestrating in his people, some on your behalf. There is a difference between acknowledging what’s happening in your life and being completely and permanently resigned to these circumstances. Take those issues to God, let him shine his light on them. Feel his presence in the middle of the storm. Let him speak his truth and healing and reassurances to you about these things. God has an amazing way of changing our perspective and reframing our fleshly thoughts into things of optimism and even joy!
Can you feel them, his arms holding you steady? Have you taken time to sense his presence? Please don’t move on with your day until you have carved out time with the God who wants to enter your circumstances, calm your fears and bring light into darkness. Yes, your day is busy and slowing your mind and heart can be difficult, but it’s so important and fruitful.
As you take this time, maybe you could write down some thoughts, feelings or pictures that come to mind. Scripture may pop into your moments with him; write it down. Feel how he is shaping and hear how he’s speaking. Savor these sweet quiet moments in your day with the God who made you, knows the hairs on your head, and longs to hold and go before you in the middle of the uncertainties, reworking and restoring all things.
“For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand;...
Fear not, I am the one who helps you” (Isa. 41:13 ESV).
