You know that moment when you wake up from a really good dream? When the possibility of it all is still so real…that moment just before - snap! - it vanishes as reality rushes in.
The end of this week might be like that for you - maybe literally, because you’re back to work! Or maybe the big dreams for your new year are already tarnishing. Here’s the good news today: When we lean into God’s dreams for us, they don’t rest on our ability to see a goal accomplished. They rest on His capable shoulders.
What dreams is God planting in your heart for this new year? What ideas and possibilities is He turning over in your mind? These are the kinds of dreams to hold on to, because they’re the ones that matter most and the ones that will last.
Take some time today - whether now in this moment, or as you scrub dishes or drive into work - to ponder the dreams God has given you for this year. Ask Him for wisdom and discernment. Ask Him for patience and trust. Ask Him for clarity and faith as He reveals your next step.
Isaiah 55:10-11 reminds us of a powerful truth about our God:
“As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Your gym dreams may not amount to much this year (although I hope they do!). But God dreams, those aren’t ever fruitless, because they rest in His hands and depend on His word, which will accomplish what He desires. We just get to give Him our yes.
As you spend time in prayer today, ask how you can give God your yes this year. And then trust Him with the rest - Amen!
