Maybe you’ve turned up your nose before at the idea of “blind faith.” I’d be with you, actually - are any of us great at walking around blind-folded?
I’d argue, though, that the faith Jesus praised during his earthly ministry (and invites us to step into every moment) isn’t best characterized by a comparison to blindness. So many of the people Jesus healed, he also challenged with a next step: a step of faith.
“Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.” (John 9:1-7)
“Go, show yourselves to the priests.” (Luke 17:11-19)
“Get up, pick up your mat and walk.” (John 5:1-9)
“Stretch out your hand.” (Mark 3:1-6)
“Go; your son will live.” (John 4:46-54)
Faith isn’t walking blind; it’s walking one step at a time. Trusting that Jesus will reveal the next step, and the one after that, and the one after that, when the time comes. Believing that it will be just as He said, even if you can’t imagine how on the way there.
Isaiah paints a picture of faith restored when he says, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isa. 30:21). Do you hear His voice today? Are you listening?
Ask the Lord today for that one next step. Whether it is to stop, go, or wait…left or right…this or that or neither… Ask, and then listen for His voice behind you saying, This is the way; walk in it.
I pray blessings over your prayer time today, my friends. Amen.
