Helping you connect with God every day.

Team Week - Coffee Team

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen (1 Peter 4:10-11, NLT).

Reflect

I participate in a number of ministries at ACF, but when Kimber, the Devo Team Lead, asked me to write about one, the first one that came to mind was working with the First Impressions Team (FIT) along with my wife, making coffee for the Sunday services.

When I first joined the FIT team, my wife Kari had been doing it for a while and really seemed to enjoy it. I decided to join her so that she wouldn’t have to do it alone. I honestly didn’t think that making coffee would be a “spiritual” kind of service. It felt so ordinary—something anyone could do. But week after week, as we brewed the pots, set out the cups and condiments, and caught the smell of fresh coffee wafting around the front of our church building, I began to notice something deeper.

People would stop by for a cup and leave with more than caffeine. A simple smile, a warm “good morning,” and that cup in their hand seemed to open a door. I’ve seen nervous first-time guests relax when they realized someone cared enough to make them feel welcome. I’ve watched regular attenders start conversations around the coffee tables that turned into prayers, friendships, and even life change.

What I thought was just coffee prep became an invitation for God’s Spirit to move. Jesus reminded me that He came not to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45), and that nothing done in His name is too small. Each pot Kari and I brewed became an act of worship—an offering of hospitality that He could use to draw people closer to Himself.

Through this ministry, my own faith has grown. I’ve learned that serving isn’t about the size of the task but the size of the God who works through it. When we put out the coffee to be poured, I am reminded that God pours grace. When we serve quietly, I remember that He sees. And when someone finds community over something so simple, I realize that God can use the smallest acts to produce eternal fruit.

Connect

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me that no act of service is too small in Your kingdom. Thank You for letting me be a part of Your work—even in something as simple as brewing coffee. Use my hands, my words, and my heart to make others feel welcome and to point them toward You. Open my eyes to see how You are working in the ordinary moments and encourage others to step into service so they too can experience Your joy. Amen.
